2 · Words to offer

That sound scared you. I am here. We can look together from here, if you like.

Stay close and notice what they need. Avoid laughing at their fear or pushing them to approach. If they do not want to investigate, you can move away and leave it for another time.

Sounds we know

5–10 minutes · Paper and a paper cup · With an adult, no surprise sounds

  1. At a quiet moment, show the objects and choose one. Explain which sound you will make before making it.
  2. Gently rub the paper or tap the cup with a finger. Let your child choose who does it, how far away to sit and when to stop.
  3. If they want to, repeat the sound while looking at the object. Finish with a familiar sound they enjoy or simply rest.

There is no need to answer: watch, point or simply sit together. Choose a quiet moment; the video can wait.
